9 Trads #6177
NathanjHunt had arranged an event to celebrate the publication of his 200th cache. The location was on the top of a WW2 pill-box on the sea-wall in St. Lawrence Bay on the Dengie. However the weather forecast was atrocious so I didn't expect many people to be there. I was surprised by the turnout and met BigBadJohn, kareninwb, snoopyus and the Besom Flyers for the first time. The weather seemed to be holding off but ten minutes into the event, there were a few drops of rain. Suddenly the powers that be, opened the tap fully and we all scuttled for cover, bringing the event to a very premature end.☹️ 1 Event #6168
The area around Harlow is virgin geocaching territory for me. So my plan was to intersperse this ocean of green with a number of small yellow islands.
Today I had a spare couple of hours so decided to pick up some orphans on a winding route down to Shoeburyness. I started with the clever but now sadly archived trad in Hockley and moved on to a nemesis of mine, Annie's Amble Around Ashingdon #4
Early in September, I was able to visit the Colne Valley Postal History Museum in Head Street, Halstead. This privately owned museum only opens twice a year.
It was my wife's birthday. She fancied going up to Flatford Mill and having a boat ride on the Stour. 🛶 We had lunch in Wilkin's Tea Rooms opposite the CM in Dedham and arrived at Flatford Mill about 2 o'clock
As you can guess, I wanted an early start in Weeley. However before I got there, I picked up another Stamped cache in Tendring followed by the local Stumped.
Now that the cool weather was here, my plan was to have an indoor meeting. I knew a decent cafe in a garden centre which had loads of free car parking. We met at ten and were soon ordering hot drinks and food.
I was planning to go down into Kent today but a late weather check suggested a lot of rain down there so I had a complete change of plan.
There' a series of Mystery caches out near Stebbing called Repton's Fellowships. There are 11 caches, each with a bonus number, building up to a final cache, which, it turned out, had a final twist but more of that later.
