I was up nice and early and parked outside All Saints, Warlingham just before dawn. I had decided to skip the start of the Boomerang series of trads and the CM multi and headed up Ward Lane to #2 of the series. I signed this one at 0823 and continued on until I got to #4. This was a 2.5/5 and although I could see the cache, I didn't have a long ladder with me so I scrubbed this one.😀
I carried on along the footpaths up to #11 where I found that the container was an old coffee percolator.🤣 I definitely hadn't encountered one of these on my geo travels before.🤔 I was not long after here that things became unstuck. I couldn't find the VS Farleigh multi or the F - Farleigh - Surrey - A to Z trad so I just carried on with the Boomerangs. I walked through the woods until I reached the 3/5 Coal Post #180. I looked high but couldn't see anything. Even if I could have, I didn't have a ladder.😀
There were no problems down to the logical end of the series apart from the 3/1.5 #16. It took me a while to spot this and in the end, it was just staring me in the face. At #20, I took the TB which turned out to be a stroke of luck as the area has now been cleared in anticipation of planning permission. I carried on picking up #1 and it was then on to the CM multi. It took me an age to realise that I was looking at the wrong info source. Once I had some reasonable coords, I had a quick find at the final stage.
It was now 1146 and the WHY NOT MONKEY event started at noon in Addington, twenty minutes away.🥴 Once I had found somewhere to park, I made my way to the event to find the usual motley crew of local cachers - Creepy Crawlies, SkiCycle, WhiteFriar and RamsPadge. Cachers were coming and going after nearby caches and although I chatted to new faces, I never caught any names. The meeting broke up and some ventured over to the nearby Harvester but I had other places to go.😀
I stopped for a quick lunch in New Addington and then found the nearby CM trad at 1332. I decided that I would pick up some stragglers that had eluded me so headed over to West Wickham for the WM multi. I soon turned that frown upside down and then moved on for another thorn in my side. Gawd knows how many times had failed at the 4/1 14 - August '13 Cache Hunt! but today, I quickly located the well hidden cache and extracked it with a TOTT from my geo bag.😀
It was time to think about heading for home and the best route was through Orpington. So there was time for the Another green box? trad and the Priory Gardens, Orpington AL series bonus. Luckily I found both of them quickly to end the day on a high.😀
